Netgear Sucks

This site is dedicated to the lousy customer service displayed by Netgear.

I bought an RT314 Router on March 20th, 2001 and immediately had problems.

I have three grips with these people as follows:

Rebate Not Honored

This is by far my biggest gripe! They failed to honor their rebate. I did everything exactly as they specified.

  1. Cut out the UPC from the retail box
  2. Included a photocopy of my sales receipt from Circuit City
  3. Filled out the rebate coupon
  4. Mailed it in on time to where it was supposed to go

Why did they deny my rebate?

Circuit City is a non-qualifying store? This is a national retail chain. I don;t think they get their stock from anywhere but a distributor. This is not close-out, overstock, or anything but FULL RETAIL STOCK.

I called Netgear three times trying to get an explanation. The only support number they have is tech support and they cannot tell you how to reach Customer Support. Customer does not exist.

 

Wrong Advice on their Website

Some of the info on their website FAQ is wrong. Many companies fail to post information on their sites, but to post wrong information is pretty irresponsible. This was not done because the unit had just come out; it has been available for over a year.

Rude Tech Support

I brought the unit home and imediately had my three IBm-compatibles and one Mac seeing each other on the network and all able to browse the web. However, one machine runs a web server (IIS 5) and I needed to direct any Port 80 traffic to this machine. I followed the instructions, then consulted the web site FAQ's. and then called tech support.

The tech support guy was a complete jerk. He said that the info in the FAQ was wrong and he got me set up, but he was rude the whole time.
